National CUP. First round. results and comments.

Lughasa wins the first match of the season beating UCD 31-25.
Lughnasa shall be pleased by the performances of Marco Volta and Tim Hofmann who score 60% of their goals, however it would be not fair toward
all the good work from Allar Porter (together with the two above scored 29 of the 31 goals) and Peter Bister.
Also need to mention the excellent performance by Andre Weinsfort, who started slow, but saved many crucial shots during the 2nd half.
UCD looked more like a group of friends meeting up for a match than a team, and this is actually the truth.
only few UCD players managed to see each other in the eye a couple of days before this match. However good signal came from some individual action, especially by the reliable Ahmed Shimi and Tor Austad.

DIT got an easy walk over Dagda, in a horrible match where only some Dagda future star shined. 44-20.
There was not much to see in these 60 min. DIT felt in a lot of embarrassing mistakes due to excess of confidence.
Dagda lads simply showed their young age and lack of skills, except Brian Campion who showed extraordinary class and talent. Also need to be mentioned
the performance of Yannic Niermeier who showed smart, fast, and precise movement
intone with Brian. This is a duo to watch...probably the best duo in Irish handball.

Rules are Rules!

To all Club representatives.

As you all know this year competitions formula and dates were decided in a committee composed by representative of 5 clubs (DCU, UCD, DIT, St. Pat’s and Lughnasa). This committee was created in order to ensure that issues and opinions of all teams were respected and represented.
Format of the competitions, rules, deadlines and other details were decided by this committee, and were found satisfactory for all clubs.
Personally and not really happily I also agreed to assume the role of “point of contact”!! This does NOT mean that I’m the organiser of the league, but only that I’ll be the reference for the receiving and distributing of information. For this purpose and in order to save my private live I create the web site http://ireland-handball.blogspot.com, where all information can be found and posted.

Also teams representatives should bear in mind that the scheduling of matches require time, and more time is necessary in order to be able to made eventual changes.
15 days before the start of the competitions is considered an amount of time below the minimum acceptable for receiving the registration of teams, preparing and releasing the Competition schedule. In fact the IOHA decided that the final schedule should be distributed 14 days before the first match.

I must call to your attention that the fixed deadline for the registration on teams WAS Sunday the 11th (15 days before the first match). ONLY one club managed to communicate its entry and to submit a list of name. This is St. Pat’s.
If rules were applied St. Pat’s would have been the only team competing, hence the winner of the National CUP.
A stretch to the rules was made in order to accept entries pass the deadline, this despite the obvious complications that will follow: late match planning, late publication of schedule, not enough time given to teams for eventual complaining or internal organization.

The deadline for the submission of all official documents to the IOHA is now moved to Thursday the 15th of September.
The deadline for the communication of the competing teams through the website above was moved to this Monday at 12-noon.

No concessions will be made for matter concerning the National League, deadlines will be enforced and all complaining will have to be submitted to the IOHA via the standard IOHA procedure.

Personally, I find unacceptable that I had to use my mobile to remind clubs to communicate list of teams competing and names.
Since the organization of the CUP was decided within the above mentioned committee, and since this committee is formed by representative from DCU, UCD, DIT, St. Pat’s and Lughnasa, and the Irish National squad, I find unacceptable that these clubs request changed, amend, or other type of modification to the approved and already divulgated rules!!
I want to remind that the National CUP was created after the request of the National squad to do not play any type of senior competition, before the Challenge Trophy. This CUP was hence planned for all players not involved with the National squad, and eager to play handball. The role of this CUP in the years to come will be the one expand the time of official competition behind standard Colleges terms.

Please submit all your comments and feed back through the site http://ireland-handball.blogspot.com, and keep in mind that all decisions will be discussed within the mentioned committee.

Regards,

Andrea Ongaro
